Epson Releases Film Factory 3.0

Epson has shipped FIlm Factory 3, an update to the company's utility for organizing and printing digital images. Epson has also launched a new multi-function printer/copier/scanner called the CX6400. Both are available now.

Film Factory is Epson's utility for working with images, previously used for simple touch-ups and border-free printing. The new version offers image management, with organizational features like the ability browse with date, comments or file names. It also allows users to add comments; catalog CD-ROM images; import and export common file types and import directly from TWAIN-compatible digital cameras. It includes image-enhancement tools for color, brightness, contrast and red-eye, as well as functions for rotation, cropping, etc. It also offers the ability to create photo album pages and HTML. The new version also supports Print Image Matching, Print Image Matching II and Exif Print.

Epson has also started shipping its CX6400 multi-function device. The CX6400 is a printer, scanner and computer-free copier, It offers an optimized print resolution of 5,760 x 1,440 and uses Epson's water-resistant, pigment-based DuraBrite inks. And it includes an integrated 1,200 x 2,400, 48-bit color scanner. Other features include:

  • FOur-cartridge system (CMYK);
  • LCD screen for navigating images;
  • Photo-restoration technology;
  • Print speeds up to 22 PPM black and 11 PPM color;
  • Quieter engine;
  • Computer-free printing with support for a variety of memory cards, including CompactFlash I/II, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MagicGate SD, SMart Media, Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Microdrive and xD-Picture Card;
  • Support for USB 2.0 with included USB cable.

Epson Film Factory is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $29.95 for the electronic download version, $39.95 for a hybrid Mac/Windows CD-ROM.
