Eovia Updates Carrara Studio

Company also previews Poser Transporter software By Dave Nagel
Eovia has released an update for Carrara Studio 3. The company has also announced a new piece of software called Poser Transporter, which is designed to provide a bridge between Curious Labs Poser and Carrara Studio. The update is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows; Poser Transporter is expected to ship this quarter for Mac OS X and Windows.

Carrara Studio 3 includes two rendering engines: Eovia Impression, a non-photographic renderer for producing paint, chalk and other effects, and Eovia Photon Reality 2.0, a global illumination renderer with HDRI support. A variety of improvements have been made to Carrara's rendering capabilities, including performance, Gaussian filtering, sky dome illumination, raytraced soft shadows, alpha channel rendering and other features. For modeling, the version 3 includes a Dynamic Extrusion Tool for both basic and complex objects; UV Editor for control over texture placement and complex shading; Shading Domains for texturing a complex model; improvements to the Vertex Modeler; enhanced Subdivision Tool with edge creasing; Tree Maker for adding trees to a scene; and an improved Spline Modeler. The new version 3.0.3 adds improved Booleans. OpenGL work support for ATI cards and more than 60 miscellaneous improvements. (A full list is available on the company's site.) The update is available free for current users.

At the Macworld Expo in San Francisco this week, the company also introduced a forthcoming addition to its software lineup called Poser Transporter. This new plugin is designed to provide a bridge between Poser 5 and Carrara Studio 3, offering support for textures, transparency, maps, clothes and animation. It will require both Carrara Studio 3 and Poser 5 and is expected to ship this quarter for Mac OS X and Windows. Pricing has not yet been set.
