Eovia Ships Amapi Designer 7

Redesigned 3D software offers new real-time displays, Mac OS X support By Dave Nagel
Eovia today released Amapi Designer 7, a fully revamped version of the company's 3D modeling and animation package. It's available now (slightly earlier than previously announced) for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

According to Eovia, Amapi 7 has been completely rewritten and given a revamped interface. It's scheduled to be rolled out in two versions--Amapi Designer 7 and Amapi Pro 7. Amapi Designer 7, released today, is the direct successor to Amapi 3D 6, offering the features of the previous version, as well as new modeling tools. It's targeted toward 3D artists, designers and architects. New features in version 7 include:

  • New real-time 3D display engines with support for the latest OpenGL extensions;
  • Customizable interface with two modes, "immersive" and "classic";
  • Workspace controls with multiple view windows;
  • Dynamic geometry for unlimited editing of all object construction parameters;
  • Object instance and clone modeling;
  • Dynamic symmetry modeling;
  • Improvements to all modeling and construction tools;
  • Direct modeling on any surface plane;
  • Import and export to Carrara Studio 2;
  • Support for all major 3D file formats.

Eovia also says the new Amapi Designer 7 receives a number of performance improvements over previous Amapi releases. Aside from enhanced OpenGL and real-time displays, it also gains performance improvements in all construction and modeling tools.

A complete (and extensive) list of new and improved features in Amapi Designer 7 is available on Eovia's Web site. Amapi Designer 7 is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $499. (A 25 percent discount is available as an introductory offer through March 31.) Upgrades from previous versions run $149 to $249. Eovia will also release Amapi Pro 7 for the same platforms in mid-2003. It will sell for $799. For more information, visit
