Elumens Licenses On2's TM2X Compression Technology

(August 01, 2001)
On2 Technologies, The Duck announced today that it has licensed its TM2X encoding software to the Elumens Corporation. Elumens will be use TM2X to create and playback its high-resolution movies. The movies will be able to be seen in Elumens' VisionStation or VisionDome products, the world's first fully immersive, single projector hemispherical display systems. On2's TM2X video compression technology will deliver 30 progressive frames per second video at a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. The result is a picture quality comparable to that of HDTV, yet capable of being played back from the hard drive of a low-end PC.

"We are proud of the fact that the Elumens Corporation has chosen On2's TM2X video compression technology for the creation and playback of their high-res movies," stated Douglas McIntyre, On2 Technologies President and CEO. "Elumens has established themselves as a forerunner in the creation of 3D projection technology, and this deal is an indicator of the demand for our family of codecs beyond VP4."

"Elumens is very pleased with the performance of On2's TrueMotion 2X codec," stated Ray Idaszak, Elumens' Chief Technology Officer. "It is the only codec that has enabled us to provide ultra high-resolution digital video compression and playback on relatively low-end Windows-based PCs. Licensing of the TrueMotion 2X codec allows us to provide our customers with an inexpensive and effective way to compress and play back their own immersive movies on our Vision Series line of products."
