Elgato Introduces EyeTV 200 FireWire Digital Video Recorder at Macworld San Francisco

Watch, Record, Edit and Archive High-Quality, MPEG-2 Encoded Television on the Mac (January 07, 2004)
Elgato Systems announced the EyeTV 200 FireWire digital video recorder, making it possible to watch, record, edit and archive high-quality, MPEG-2 encoded television on the Mac. EyeTV 200 will be available in January at Elgato's online store and select retail stores.

EyeTV 200 now features a FireWire interface and state-of-the-art MPEG-2 video encoding, which allow EyeTV to capture, compress and transfer high-quality video to watch and record on the Mac. MPEG-2 is a premium-quality video compression standard, which is the basis for DVD and Digital Television. FireWire, the gold standard for high-speed data transfer, also supplies power to the device, eliminating the need for an additional power supply or cords.*

Featuring intuitive and easy-to-use digital video recording software, EyeTV 200 allows users to:

  • Watch television on their Mac
  • Pause live television
  • Experience "time shifting" by rewinding and fast forwarding through television as they watch
  • Record television to the Mac's hard drive, creating an archive of their favorite shows
  • Program EyeTV through the manual control panel or optional program guide from TitanTV ( From TitanTV, users will soon be able to program EyeTV remotely via the Internet.
  • Edit out unwanted content using EyeTV's built-in editor that lets users easily identify where programs and scenes start and stop
  • Convert old VHS tapes to DVD by capturing VCR content through EyeTV and converting it to digital
  • Archive programs to DVD or VideoCD to play everywhere on most standard DVD players.**

    For its electronic program guide, Elgato continues to work with Decisionmark Corp., developers of TitanTV, the leading online Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) and definitive source for what's on TV. Soon EyeTV owners using the TitanTV online program guide can remotely schedule to record a program on their home computer from another Internet-connected computer, making it easier than ever to catch their favorite shows. TitanTV provides EyeTV users with the most accurate program schedules, updated by the broadcasters themselves, and new this month, filters that bring favorite shows and genres front and center. No other online guide provides this level of customization and ease of use.

    EyeTV 200 will be available for $349 at Elgato's online store ( and select retail stores in January.

    System requirements
    EyeTV 200 requires: A Macintosh computer with minimum PowerPC G4 500Mhz or G5 processor and built-in FireWire port; Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher and 256MB of RAM (512MB recommended); and approximately 2GB of hard disk space per hour of recorded TV. An Internet connection is required to use TitanTV, EyeTV's optional electronic program guide.

    External power supply may be required if additional peripherals draw FireWire bus power.
    A CD/DVD recorder and Roxio's Toast 6 Titanium software are required to create DVDs or VideoCDs.
