ElectricFX has released a public beta version of Extract3D, a plugin for Adobe After Effects that extracts data from 3D files created in popular 3D modeling applications. The beta release is available for a limited time for Macintosh and Windows for $65, with a free demo version also available.

Extract3D supports 3D image data in RPF, RLA, PIC/ZPIC and EI/EIZ files. It extracts, masks and color maps files using Z depth, material and object IDs, two channels of texture UV, three channels of surface normals , three channels of non-clamped RGB and coverage. Features include:

  • View values for all 3D channels at any point in the image;
  • Automatically set color mapping black/white points to image's Z Depth range;
  • Extract pixels based on combinations of image channel values;
  • Include/exclude pixels;
  • Create new alpha channel or retain layer's existing alpha;
  • Feather and apply coverage

Extract3D supports the After Effects standard version and Production Bundle and includes full support for 64-bit color in the Production Bundle.

Those who purchase the $65 beta will receive version 1.0 at no additional charge when it's released. Version 1.0 will sell for $95. The software supports Mac OS 9 and Windows. Do not try to install this software in Classic mode in Mac OS X. For more information, visit
