EditShare Helps Serial Digital Post Enhance Workflow

Toronto post production shop links multiple content creation systems (August 03, 2004)

EditShare LLC (, the pioneers of cost-effective media sharing and collaborative editing systems for digital media artists, today announced that Serial Digital Post, a Toronto-based boutique high definition post production facility, has invested in EditShare systems to enhance its content creation workflow for its existing high profile clients.

By extending high end media sharing and offline collaborative editing capabilities to Serial Digital's current online clients, the EditShare system enables the facility to cost-effectively handle the extremely high volume of media typical of a large television series, and offer multiple online editors the ability to simultaneously access any and all source clips. This newly enhanced workflow was crucial in securing a significant new project with Exploration Productions Inc. for Serial Digital Post.

"When Exploration Productions approached us with their requirements for a multi-part documentary series, it was clear that we needed to invest in a collaborative media sharing system that would enable us to handle both the online and offline requirements for the project while delivering the highest quality results; however a $70,000 investment in new equipment is not viable for a boutique shop like ours," said Jeff Krebs, principal and co-founder of Serial Digital Post. "Out of the box, EditShare has given us all the power and capabilities of the industry's highest-end, prohibitively expensive media sharing systems for a fraction of the cost. This single investment in EditShare has greatly enhanced our business, enabling us to expand our workflow capabilities with new high value services, but with a cost structure that makes us highly competitive and attractive to clients who demand high end results on a budget."

"Serial Digital Post represents the quintessential EditShare customer and their success with the Exploration Productions project is testament to our ability to effectively level the competitive landscape for small and mid-sized shops," added Andy Liebman, president of EditShare. "EditShare enabled Serial Digital Post to fully optimize their stand-alone Avid Xpress Pro systems by creating a shared, collaborative environment that exceeds even the most sophisticated edit suites in the industry. Small companies with small budgets and big creative ideas deserve the opportunity to compete. We're proud to have contributed to Serial Digital's success."

The EditShare System
The EditShare system, designed for small to medium sized production shops, newsrooms and workgroups running standalone versions of industry-leading content creations solutions, such as Avid Xpress DV and Xpress Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, supports up to 10 workstations simultaneously. Developed by editors with an eye for workflow details and nuances that professional editors and artists crave, EditShare effectively creates a new category of affordable, viable, high performance collaborative editing solutions for budget-conscious small- to mid-sized production companies.

Built on patent-pending technology, EditShare allows all connected content creation workstations to create and access a common pool of media files, while guaranteeing that individual workstations never interfere with, damage, or erase media on other workstations on the network.

EditShare is ideally suited for independent production companies, AV and public affairs departments looking for an effective, collaborative tool that enables a group of editors to work on the same projects simultaneously. Additionally, EditShare provides an economical solution for small- to mid-sized news operations looking to streamline workflow by giving multiple editors access to a common pool of material.

Key features and capabilities of the EditShare system include the ability to:
* Share media files among 10 workstations running DV-resolution video and multiple tracks of audio.
* Safely allow multiple editors to collaborate on projects. Render complex effects on multiple machines - all without duplicating media.
* Capture multiple tapes simultaneously on one group of workstations while editing on other workstations.
* Write scripts, review rough cuts, and screen and log footage while editors work with the same media files on other machines.
* Output directly to tape from the centralized hard drive storage, or directly to air through third party systems that support playout from a networked drive.
* Work at any available editing station on your network. No need to move drives around.
* Store and access up to two streams of uncompressed video (1:1 - 8-bit) on your network while one or two other workstations use DV material.

EditShare was awarded the "NAB 2004 Making the Cut" award by Bob Turner's The Cut, a VideoSystems Magazine publication.
