Earwax Productions Working on Two New FilmsSound editing and design for The Californians and Brothel (June 11, 2004)
Earwax Productions' principals Jim McKee and Barney Jones are pleased to be working on movies in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
THE CALIFORNIANS, the new feature by San Rafael based producer-director-writer team Jonathan Parker and Catherine DiNapoli (BARTLEBY), stars Noah Wyle, Illeana Douglas, Cloris Leachman, Keith Carradine, newcomer Kate Mara, as well as local talent Erika Luckett, Will Marchetti, and Mr. Lucky. Based on Henry James' THE BOSTONIANS, it is a romantic comedy about a Marin County real estate developer (Wyle) who falls in love with a beautiful activist folk singer (Mara) who is trying to stamp out real estate development. It will feature several new songs by Nashville songwriter Craig Caruthers and a score by Los Angeles composer Niel Nielsen.
Barney Jones is coordinating and editing the music. The movie will mix at Saul Zaentz in late July. The release date is not yet set.
BROTHEL, written and directed by Amy Waddell, is a ghost story about a woman trying to remodel an old brothel in a small mining town "who becomes the mistress of death in an attempt to stay close to one she has lost to death." http://www.emergingpictures.com/brothel.htm . It stars Serena Scott Thomas, Grace Zabriskie, Brett Cullen and Bruce Payne.
The movie is being mixed by Richard Burton at Riverside Studios in Glendale. Sound designer, Jim McKee has been creating psychological sound interiors for the hallucinatory portions of the film. "My role was to create the voices inside Serena Scott Thomas's obsessed head." Sounds were also contributed by Jeff (dream sequence) Darby, Andrew Roth and Barney Jones. From executive producers Ira Deutchman, Jane Alsobrook, and Douglas Tirola.
