EZQuest Ships FireWire 800 Drives

Drives available in 250 GB capacity By Dave Nagel
EZQuest today shipped new models in its line of Cobra+ external hard drives. The new versions of the drives include both FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 interfaces. They're available now for Macintosh and Windows.

The new Cobra+ drives incorporate the new FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) standard, which offers data transfer speeds of 800 megabits per second, twice the speed of the previous generation of FireWire. The drives also include USB 2.0 connections, which offer transfer speeds up to 480 megabits per second.

Cobra+ models are available in capacities up to 250 GB. However, EZQuest says it will continue selling the units with FireWire 400 connections for those who do not yet have USB 2.0 or FireWire 800 capabilities on their systems. The older models will continue to be available in capacities of 40 GB to 120 GB. According to EZQuest, the Cobra+ drives are stackable and include Hard Disk Speed Tools, a RAID-0 striping utility for Macintosh. The drives are also compatible with the striping software included with various systems, including Windows 2000.

Prices run $299 for the 120 GB model, $459 for the 200 GB model and $589 for the 250 GB model. For more information, visit
