ETC To Present Digital Cinema Paper At SMPTEMatt Cowan to deliver ?Reference Projector For Digital Cinema Mastering? (October 08, 2004)
Entertainment Technology Consultants (ETC) announces that co-founder Matt Cowan will present a paper on the topic of reference projector for digital cinema mastering during the 2004 SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition on October 21, 2004 Cowans paper is being delivered during a session chaired by Charles Swartz of the Entertainment Technology Center. The dissertation will describe the concept of the reference projector for use in mastering for digital cinema. The paper, co-authored by Ron Williams for the Landmark Group, tackles the necessary technical attributes for achieving a standardized performance from post production to the movie theatre. Throughout this process a consistent look from post production to mastering and finally, exhibition is perfectly maintained. In conclusion, Cowan will discuss the recommended practice document, which was drafted by the DC28 color ad hoc group.
The SMPTE Technical Conference will be held in the Pasadena Convention Center.
About Matt Cowan:
Matt Cowan has over 20 years experience in the development and application of new products in the media and display fields. His comprehensive background includes development of electronic projection systems, analysis of color reproduction issues in electronic displays, strategic technology sourcing, reviews of advanced electronic projection products and detailed analysis of compression schemes for digital images. Matt was instrumental in developing the current mastering process used
in digital cinema, which introduced the use of the digital mastering theatre for color dynamic range adjustment. He has built ETC's reputation as a digital imaging technology "think tank" that provides sound answers to engineers, project managers and developers in the technology community. A frequently sought speaker and panelist, Cowan has participated in numerous industry conferences and film festivals, and chaired the SMPTE DC28.3 study group on compression for digital cinema. He holds an M.A. Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
