EASTWEST ANNOUNCES WINNER OF "SCORE THIS MOVIE" CONTEST(July 24, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-7-24--Doug Rogers, founder and producer of EASTWEST, has announced Justin Ray Miller as the winner of the virtual instrument company's "Score This Movie" contest. For his winning composition, "The Polish Prescription for the People (Ending is Beginning)," Miller will receive all seven EASTWEST PLAY products.
Using only EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP virtual instruments, contestants were given a little over two months to create a composition parallel based on the concept of an original short movie, created by Zennor Alexander:
"This is a story about the circularity of life - Out of the void comes a seed which sprouts into a plant. The leaves of the plant mature which ends the growth phase. As the leaves fly off in all directions, we follow one on its journey into the unknown. The leaf meets another and the two fly around in a mating dance, eventually merging. The merged leaves become mature wings, and fly off through this new world to find the original void from which they came. The wings finally dissolve and compact to become a new seed, completing the cycle."
Miller's composition incorporated the use of EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP Colossus, QUANTUM LEAP RA, and EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP Symphonic Choirs. The combination of orchestral and ethnic instruments gives a haunting, primal feel to the life cycle in the desolate wasteland Alexander depicts in this movie short (to see the movie along with the composition, visit http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?t=14523).
"The caliber of entries for this year's contest was so high, selecting a winner was very difficult for Zennor," says Rogers. "Many of the contestants were utilizing the same collections for their compositions, yet each sounded unique, truly illustrating the versatility of EASTWEST's sound collections."
As winner of the contest, Miller will receive all seven EASTWEST PLAY products: Goliath the Sequel to Colossus, Fab Four Virtual Instrument, a collection of sounds inspired by the Beatles; Quantum Leap Gypsy, a collection of extremely detailed Gypsy-style virtual instruments; Quantum Leap Ministry of Rock, a 20-gig collection of rock drums, basses and guitars; Quantum Leap Voices of Passion, a virtual instrument of female vocalists from America, Bulgaria, Syria, India and Wales; Quantum Leap Pianos, the most detailed collection of the world's finest grand pianos; and Quantum Leap Stormdrum 2 - The Next Generation, the sequel to Stormdrum.
Since the competition this year was so tight, EASTWEST decided to name a runner up ? Frakir with his composition, "A Spark of Life." Frakir will receive one EASTWEST PLAY product of his choice.
