Drink Only the Wines You Like: WinoBot Launches a New Way to Select Wine

(September 12, 2011)

SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/13/11 -- DEMO Fall 2011 WinoBot launches its alpha version on Demo Fall 2011. WinoBot is a new way for restaurant customers to select wine. WinoBot gives personalized recommendations based on customers' individual wine tasting preferences. WinoBot wants to build and leverage its unique library of individual wine preferences. This will allow WinoBot to help wineries and restaurants thrive in their wine business and will position WinoBot as a central player in the wine industry.

WinoBot is a new way for restaurant customers to select wine. This new free iPhone app provides the best wine recommendations based on the restaurant's current wine list -- all of which have been pre-loaded on the WinoBot app for users' convenience. WinoBot's current wine recommendations are based on food pairing, price, and variety. The user can rate the wine tasted and check personal tasting history at any time. The next version will go even further and give personalized recommendations based on customers' individual wine tasting preferences!

The WinoBot idea emerged when the founders realized that many consumers lack confidence to choose wine: they know when they like wine but cannot guess from the wine list which wine corresponds to their individual taste. "WinoBot gives customers the confidence that they are getting the wine that best matches their personal taste," says WinoBot's CEO Xavier Lederer

WinoBot's business model goes beyond improving users' experiences at restaurants: "WinoBot wants to build and leverage its unique library of individual wine ratings," according to Lederer. This unique asset will enable WinoBot to:

  • Sell wines to consumers -- wines that they will like, based on their individual wine ratings.
  • Help wineries boost their direct sales (a top priority for many US wineries) by connecting them with customers who like their wine. In short: with WinoBot wineries can use restaurants as a great expansion of their tasting room.
  • Help restaurants improve their bottom line (also a top priority for many restaurants), which often depends heavily on alcohol sales.

WinoBot is launching its alpha version on September 15, 2011 in the San Francisco Bay Area and already covers more than 100 restaurants. The objective of the alpha version is to get user feedback and to gather wine ratings from consumers in order to enrich and test the WinoBot recommendation model. Based on the wine ratings from the alpha testers, WinoBot is building a model that will recommend wines based on the consumer's individual wine tasting preferences.
