Drastic Technologies and Digitalvideo Computing Select Cipricos MediaVault Storage Solution for Top-End Video Workstation

Ciprico?s high-performance MediaVault 4210 storage solution to enhance DVC?s ClipRecorder XTrem 2K film HD and telecine works (August 16, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-8-16--Ciprico Inc. (NASDAQ: CPCI), a leading provider of intelligent storage software, solutions and appliances, has been selected by Drastic Technologies and Digitalvideo Computing (DVC) to provide its MediaVault 4210 storage array for DVCs ClipRecorder XTrem 2K Digital Disk Recorder and workstation. The selection has resulted in an OEM agreement with the two companies, as Digitalvideo Computing serves as Drastics manufacturing representative and master distributor in Europe.

Cipricos dual channel, 4 Gb Fibre Channel 4210 RAID array will provide high performance and high capacity storage for DVCs flagship ClipRecorder workstation, targeted at HD and 2K and 4K Digital Intermediate applications. The powerhouse combination is ideal for applications requiring sustained throughput performance and high availability like HD encoding for HD and BlueRay DVD; HD broadcasting; HD presentations & visualization; and 2K and 4K Digital Intermediate processing, editing and grading. DVCs ClipRecorder is based on Drastics software technology.

Drastics software provides Digital Disk Recorder (DDR) functionality for DVCs ClipRecorder as well as Drastics third generation "New Titans" Series DDRs.  The production proven software provides direct integration with VTR serial RS-422, server serial protocols and universal network interfaces.  These real world interfaces, along with multi headed editing, media management and a complete software media translation system, provide seamless access to the most complete digital intermediate interface available.
?Cipricos MediaVault 4210 arrays deliver industry leading bandwidth, capacity and performance capable of handling Drastics most demanding applications, said James Brooks, VVW Development Manager for Drastic Technologies. The high-performance, interoperability and throughput capabilities enabled by Cipricos MediaVault are crucial for uncompressed SD, HD, 2K and 4K film resolution capture, as well as delivery. This in effect not only benefits Drastic, but also our European partner, Digitalvideo Computing, and their ClipRecorder workstation.

?We are excited about the throughput performance delivered by Cipricos MediaVault RAID systems, added Andrew Mazanec, Support Manager for Digitalvideo Computing. ?With the 4210 model and ClipRecorder XTreme, our combined solution delivers smooth dual channel 2K recording and playback or single channel 4K playback. Ciprico deeply understands the video and HD market, and as a result, MediaVaults integration with our ClipRecorder was easy: simple plug and play.

Both ClipRecorder and Drastics Titan series of servers benefit from Cipricos third generation storage solution, which features a dual 4 Gb Fibre Channel interface, and is capable of sustaining over 600 MB/s throughput. The high-performance, high-capacity system is ideal for capture, editing and delivery of real-time HD and 2K film resolution. In addition, MediaVault supports Microsoft Windows®, Macintosh®, Linux®, Unix®, SGI IRIX® and Sun Solaris operating systems while enabling users to benefit from storage capacities up to 10 TB.

?Were pleased to have the opportunity to deliver top-performance storage solutions for such industry leaders as Drastic Technologies and Digitalvideo Computing, concluded Steve Merrifield, President and Chief Executive Officer for Ciprico. ?Our partnership is a testament to our commitment to enhance the digital video and film, streaming and broadcast experiences with our high-performance storage solutions.  We are poised to meet the biggest and most complex storage challenges in HD and digital video, and this partnership further validates the capability of our MediaVault technology to do so at the highest level.

Drastic Technologies and DVC Digitalvideo Computing will exhibit their technologies in Cipricos booth, # 7.709, during the 2007 IBC Conference and Exhibition the leading European event for the world of digital content creation, management and delivery. The exhibition will take place at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from September 7 to 11, 2007.
