Dr. Rawstock Intros On-Location HD Editing System

$38,199 Portable PostHouse using Mac G4 and Final Cut Pro to be available Q3, 2002 By Charlie White
Dr. Rawstock today introduced its newest digital production/postproduction system for on-set or on-location HD nonlinear editing, Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse. Designed around Apple's Power Mac G4, Final Cut Pro digital video editing software and the Evertz Afterburner, Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse is a full-featured, HD postproduction facility in a box.

For the first time, Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse provides creative professionals who work with HD content the efficiencies and advantages of a totally portable HD nonlinear editing system. Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse makes real-time content control and manipulation possible at the point of capture. When used on set or on location, content is available for manipulation or editing at the point of capture, which means more time for experimentation, more time to explore new ideas, and more importantly, more time to focus on the overall creative process.

"The production process just got a whole lot more creative and affordable," said Lowell Kay, Dr. Rawstock's president. "We set out to find an integrated, totally mobile solution that would allow creative professionals to completely interact with their HD content -- not days after it's shot, but right on the set, right at the point of capture. With our Portable PostHouse, you save money because your content is always on set, with you. By providing immediate access to HD content, the normal costs and inefficiencies of conventional postproduction are completely eliminated."

Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse is delivered as a turnkey syetem, which includes features that provide on-the-fly down-converting with HD timecode; review content interactively using Instant Dailies; perform rough cuts on set or on location using Final Cut Pro; and to simplify the production process by giving creative professionals instant access to their content.

Taming of the HD shrew
Dr. Rawstock's Portable PostHouse converts HD content to DV in real time while maintaining all associated timecode (NTSC 29.97, HD 23.98, Audio 29.97). During the capture process, digital content is sent to high-performance storage devices; captured on tape; and simultaneously down-converted to a DV signal, which can be edited on any Macintosh computer that supports Final Cut Pro while maintaining the quality and HD timecode.

Target Audience
The product is intended for creative professionals who shoot 24p HD content and demand the efficiencies and advantages of a traditional nonlinear editor on-set or on-location. The target use includes: music video production, single camera TV production, feature films, commercials, and documentaries.
