Doreen Colondres Participates in the Rating Committee of the 2011 Harvest of Ribera del Duero, SpainThe Vintage Received the Rating of "Excellent" (May 01, 2012)
ROA, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 05/01/12 -- Doreen Colondres, Puerto Rican Celebrity Chef of the Fox Utilísima chain and creator of "La Cocina No Muerde" and "The Kitchen Doesn't Bite," was invited by the Regulatory Council for the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin to take part in the tasting that awarded for third time in a row, the rating of "EXCELLENT" to the 2011 harvest.
The presentation of Ribera del Duero's vintage number 29 was held at the new headquarters of the Regulatory Council in the city of Roa, Spain, before the rating committee and the national press. The committee consisted of a total of ten tasters, including Doreen Colondres, Ciro Carro, sommelier of the three-Michelin-star restaurant Akelarre, and internationally recognized enologist Tomás Postigo, who also has close ties to the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.
The President of Ribera del Duero, José Trillo, pointed out that "The wines of the Ribera del Duero are subject to stringent quality control, with the ultimately simple goal of not disappointing the expectations and loyalty that consumers have shown for this region in these challenging times."
Meanwhile, Doreen Colondres, selected as one of the rating committee spokespersons, said: "I grew up with the wines of Ribera, they speak for themselves and we need to make them even better known in the United States of America. The 2011 harvest, in spite of the harsh weather conditions experienced by the country, was developed with great care and was therefore ultimately successful. The result of this has been very balanced wines that are characterized by slightly more alcohol than usual and are well balanced due to their natural acidity. We encounter their typical bright red color, aromas of ripe, fresh fruit, sweet and delicate tannins and the assurance that each of these wines will mature into a genuine star."
According to the rating committee, the visual phase of the vintage reveals very well dressed red wines with plenty of color. In the olfactory phase, the prominent tones are those derived from sweet tannins, minerals and fruits in perfect ripeness and in the tasting phase there is a good balance between alcohol, acidity and tannin, as well as great tannic potential of high quality.
This vintage of Ribera del Duero offers high quality young wines and young kegs that display the potential to become great wines, and particularly great potential as cellared wines. www.drinkribera.com
