CINCINNATI (AP) ' The last five survivors of the Doolittle Tokyo Raid gather this week in Ohio for their 70th anniversary reunion ' and a solemn ritual of remembrance.
The celebration at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force near Dayton includes as guests survivors or relatives of the aircraft carrier that launched "Doolittle's Raiders" ' and of Chinese villagers who helped save them afterward.
It begins Tuesday with a fly-in of vintage B-25 bomber planes. Highlights include autograph sessions, a showing of the 1944 movie "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" and a memorial service. Privately, the Raiders will toast with engraved silver goblets the 75 who have passed before them.
Raider Thomas Griffin says this will be a special reunion, likely their last big one, as all are in their 90s.
