Don Brittain and Phil Brock Join REZN8Getting the band back together (September 19, 2001)
As Director of Advanced Applied Research, Don Brittain will play an integral part in developing REZN8's multimedia efforts. In his current role, Brittain will be responsible for identifying and examining available technology and integrating it into REZN8's multimedia strategy in a cost-effective manner.
Brittain's expertise extends across a wide range of technology fronts -- from product research to software development. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of 3D Studio Max. Prior to this, Brittain, who holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, served as Vice-President of Research for Wavefront Technologies. In this capacity, he was responsible for the management of the research, product development, documentation, quality assurance, support and systems workgroups.
Brittain believes the greatest challenge he will face in his position at REZN8 relates to the relationship between the consumer and multimedia itself. "Multimedia is a passive technology as far as the consumer is concerned. It is important to encourage interaction between the consumer and technology and to present that technology in a way that is compelling and reliable." According to Brittain, "REZN8 is on the leading edge of bringing multimedia to the forefront and I look forward to being a part of that."
Joining REZN8 as its Senior Graphics Programmer is Phil Brock. In this capacity, Brock will lead REZN8's continuing development in the creation of real-time rendering technology applied to a variety of markets -- including broadcast, PC, game box and special-venue graphics.
In his role at REZN8, it will be Brock's task to formulate a graphics engine that is compatible with the needs and requirements of REZN8's core of digital designers and animators. "The challenge will be in making the technology flexible enough so that it can be easily incorporated into other software systems, making it universal," said Brock.
Brock brings to REZN8 a keen understanding of 3D programs and environments, with his previous positions as Senior Graphics Programmer for the following companies: Wavefront Technologies, Ex Machina (based in Paris, France) and Mental Images (based in Berlin, Germany).
Brock also founded the Internet start-up Mayim LLC, a company that developed a browser plug-in for interacting with immersive 3D environments that are streamed over the web and rendered in real-time. In addition, Brock also founded Phizm, Inc., a consulting company focusing on outsourced software application development for a wide range of domains.
Brock, who holds a MA in Science from Cornell University, has also earned several film credits. During his tenure as Director of Research & Development for Santa Barbara Studios, Brock was involved with several film production projects including effects for Star Trek Voyager and the Oscar-nominated IMAX film, Cosmic Voyage. He also organized in-house software for writing a hair-fur renderer for the film, An American Werewolf in Paris.
Bill Kovacs, CTO at REZN8 said, "It feels like we are getting the band back together. Both of these guys were stellar performers at Wavefront Technologies and, for me, it's a real luxury to work with programmers that are proven entities. Our goal is to expand our scope of services and provide our designers and animators with unique and innovative tools for media delivery."
