Dolby Surrounds Game Developers Conference 2006To Offer Audio Expertise (March 20, 2006)
Dolby Laboratories, Inc. will feature the hottest names in audio at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2006 at the San Jose Convention Center on March 20-24. Highlights include a panel featuring Academy Award(R) winning sound mixer Michael Hedges (King Kong; Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as well as a series of in-booth talks featuring sound designers of several of the hottest movies.
Taking center stage at the Dolby booth (booth 824), the sound geniuses behind the video games Genji; Prince of Persia(R): The Two Thrones(TM); Call of Duty(R) 2: Big Red One; Spider-Man(TM) The Movie; Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter(TM); From Russia with Love(TM); and the Samurai Warrior series will discuss how surround sound enhances these popular titles. Speakers will also include audio experts from Activision, Bungie Studios, PCB Productions, and Sony Computer Entertainment. Dolby's participation in the GDC conference program includes two panel discussions. In "Loudness and Dynamic Range: From Theory to Reality" on Thursday, March 23, at 9:00 a.m., Dolby Broadcast Product Manager Jeff Riedmiller will join a panel of experts to discuss the need for standardized sound levels in games, debate best practices, and identify next steps. On Friday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m., Dolby Game Developer Support Engineer Matt Tullis will narrate "Ready, Set, Mix," a step-by-step how-to session on creating hot-sounding cut scenes. The session features Academy Award winner Michael Hedges, Park Road Post Productions, mixing a multichannel audio track from the film The World's Fastest Indian.
Visitors to Dolby's in-booth theater will see a sneak preview of Dolby's innovative new games trailer that showcases the excellence of surround sound in some of the most popular titles. In addition, visitors to the Dolby booth can experience the clarity and richness that Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic(R) II, and Dolby Headphone surround sound technologies bring to game play. Demonstrations will be available on a variety of platforms, including the Microsoft(R) Xbox 360(TM), Sony(R) PlayStation(R) 2, Sony PSP(TM), and Toshiba Qosmio(TM) laptop for PC game play.
