Doctor: Wash. school shooting victim criticalDoctor: 8-year-old girl injured in Wash. school shooting still critical, faces more operations
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) ' An 8-year-old girl who was critically hurt in a Washington state school shooting remains in critical condition at a Seattle hospital with complicated organ injuries.
The girl suffered bullet wounds to her abdomen in Wednesday's shooting.
Dr. Eileen Bulger said at a news conference Thursday that Amina Kocer-Bowman will likely be at the hospital for several weeks and face further surgeries. The girl is sedated and on a ventilator at Harborview Medical Center but has woken up and interacted with her parents.
Authorities say a 9-year-old classmate of the girl's brought a handgun to a Bremerton school that accidentally discharged. That boy appeared Thursday before a juvenile judge who will decide whether the third-grader will face criminal charges.
