Discreet Unveils combustion 2 at IBC(September 14, 2001)
combustion 2 software will offer professional visual effects and motion graphic artists new tools and workflow including multi-format project capabilities (including up to 16bit), new particle effects, and improvements in its base and rendering architecture. Expected to ship at end-of-year 2001, combustion 2 will make complex visual effects creation faster and more sophisticated, with integration within Discreet's broad family of industry-acclaimed content creation solutions.
The new multi-format capabilities in combustion 2 software have been expanded to include higher bit depth for feature film compositing -- with advanced film tools such as degrain, regrain and colour look-up tables (LUT). combustion 2 software will also offer a new fully-editable, interactive schematic view designed to make complex visual effects creation faster and simpler, embodied in a user interface and workflow environment designed for artists.
Additional new features in the combustion 2 software package will include a fully-integrated 2D particle system, an expansive and interactive text and motion graphics module, and garbage masking technology that provides parallel workflow integration with Discreet's latest versions of its online visual effects systems -- inferno 4.6, flame 7.6 and flint 7.6 -- featuring expanded toolsets and hundreds of customer requested usability features. flame 7.6 will also support real-time HD capabilities running on the sgi(R) Octane2 platform as the inferno 4.6 system continues delivering real-time film capabilities on the new Onyx 3200.
Performance enhancements in combustion 2 will include a new and highly-optimized 2D software renderer, OpenGL support, Mac OSX(R) support, and a further optimized 3D compositing environment for direct integration with 3ds max, Discreet's modeling, animation and rendering software.
combustion 2 software is designed to add to, and work with, many of the world's best-selling graphics applications -- from Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator -- to Apple Final Cut Pro non-linear editing software. combustion 2 offers fluid workflow and integration with Discreet's smoke and fire multi-master online editing and finishing systems and Windows NT-based non-linear editing system, edit 6, with direct bin and file sharing -- making the interchange between editing and effects extremely efficient.
combustion 2 software is expected to be available end-of-year 2001, at the same suggested retail price as version 1 -- EUR 4,250 in the Euro Zone, 2,695 Pounds Sterling in the UK. The suggested retail price for the upgrade from version 1 is EUR 1,000 in the Euro Zone, 595 Pounds Sterling in the UK. Commercial customers purchasing combustion 1 from August 1st until first customer shipment (FCS) of combustion 2, will be allowed to upgrade at no additional charge.
