Discreet Announces smoke and fire version 5(September 14, 2001)
A new component in the new versions of smoke 5 and fire 5 software is support for Avid's Open Media Framework Interchange (OMFI) -- offering file format compatibility between smoke and fire as well as Avid's NLE systems. Expected to begin shipping by end-of-year 2001, the systems will include real-time, high-definition (HD) functionality in smoke and high-resolution digital cinema capabilities in fire -- both with new editorial features -- such as sparks (third-party plug-ins), matte containers and audio timewarps.
smoke 5 and fire 5 will offer digital content creation artists new fine-cut editing tools and extended integration in the newly announced shipping versions of Discreet's flint(R) 7.6, flame(R) 7.6 and inferno(R) 4.6 online effects systems. Editors will have extended capabilities to create effects within smoke and fire, decreasing production times and increasing collaboration and workflow integration between the editing and effects processes.
The multi-master editing capabilities of Discreet's smoke 5 will enable broadcast and post-production facilities to master in HD and finish in any of the numerous high-definition and standard-definition formats. smoke 5 will also offer users advanced Automated Project Transfer integration with edit 6.5, Discreet's Windows NT-based desktop non-linear solution.
With Automated Project Transfer, editors will be able to seamlessly transfer timelines, effects, clips, titles, graphics and other media between edit 6.5 and smoke 5.
fire 5 will include new 12-bit color depth and up to 4K x 4K wide-screen cinema image resolution. Combined with multi-master editing capabilities, fire 5 will output to film, HD and 601, all from a single project.
