Discreet Announces New Products At IBC 2001(September 14, 2001)
All Discreet product announcements at IBC support "heatwave", Discreet's infrastructure and workflow environment that offers cross-platform interoperability within Discreet and 3rd party applications. heatwave technology enables broadcast, post-production and content creation companies to capture, manage, share, distribute and archive media assets for all resolutions, including HD and film.
Discreet recently announced plans to purchase the Cleaner and CineStream family of products from Media 100. The US $16 million acquisition will advance Discreet's leadership position in digital media design, content creation and delivery-allowing its customers to create, distribute, re-purpose and publish media content for consumption via the Internet and other platforms. As the interactive and streaming markets grow, Discreet intends to offer its customers a comprehensive suite of rich media solutions that address their needs from creation to distribution. The acquisition is expected to close before the end of Q4 in Autodesk's fiscal year, (January, 2002).
smoke 5 and fire 5 - HD editing and finishing
smoke and fire 5, Discreet's premier resolution-independent, non-compressed HD, 601 and film non-linear editing and finishing systems, contain new editorial features and extended integration with Discreet visual effects solutions running on SGI's multi-processor Octane 2 desktop with DmediaPro card for HD input and output, as well as the new Onyx 3200 supercomputing platform.
frost 3 - integrated real-time on-air graphics
frost 3, Discreet's real-time 3D on-air graphics creation and delivery system, offers broadcasters the ability to create and change animated 3D graphics interactively while on air. The new features include 2D text from Inscriber, advanced performance with the SGI Octane2, new pricing, and advanced rendering capabilities.
combustion 2, inferno 4.6, flame 7.6, flint 7.6-desktop and online visual effects
combustion 2 software offers advanced performance and high quality multi-format compositing for Windows NT and Macintosh desktop systems. Delivering solid integration with Discreet's 3ds max(tm) animation software, edit desktop non-linear editing (NLE) system and the latest versions of its inferno, flame and flint visual effects systems-combustion 2 will offer editors, animators and visual artists a professional, high performance desktop compositing solution as an attractive entry into the Discreet family of visual effects products.
edit 6.5-desktop NLE system adds support for Pinnacle TARGA 3000
Discreet's popular NLE solution, edit 6.5, now runs under Windows 2000 and Pinnacle's TARGA 3000 card, delivering multiple streams of non-compressed video and graphics as well as edit slipstream for web authoring, publishing and streaming. Now editors can create high-quality promos, station IDs, short or long-form programs for broadcast television, corporate or web-based video.
heatwave infrastructure and workflow solutions
heatwave components introduced at IBC this year include backdraft 5 software and jobnet 3 technology. backdraft 5 is Discreet's media management software that frees inferno, flame, and flint visual effects systems, and fire and smoke editing and finishing systems from time-consuming administrative activities such as archiving, media I/O and asset relocation. jobnet 3 is a storage area network (SAN)-based media and meta-data sharing solution for Discreet edit NLE workstations. With jobnet 3, editors and producers benefit from a proxy server for faster performance, additional review and approval features like multiple cue points, and higher level of security on a per project basis.
