Digital Voodoo Ships Real Time Offline Firmware Upgrade to D1 Desktop 64AV Card

(September 13, 2001)
Digital Voodoo announced immediate availability of its real-time and off-line firmware upgrade for the D1 Desktop 64AV card. The upgrade, a combination of software and firmware to allow capture and playback at off-line resolution as well as support for real-time 10 bit dissolves, will be available as a standard feature on all D1 Desktop 64AVs shipped after today.

The firmware upgrade requires a field swap of two chips on the D1 Desktop 64 AV card for users of firmware version 27 or lower. The software to enable the off-line capabilities is available at free of charge. D1 Desktop 64 AV users who purchased their cards after April 23rd, 2001, will receive the firmware at no additional charge. For all cards purchased before April 23rd, 2001, the firmware is available from Digital Voodoo resellers worldwide and is priced at $80US.

Fully compatible with G4 series workstations, the D1 Desktop 64 AV provides unequaled 10-bit quality for paint, compositing and editing applications.

The D1 Desktop 64 AV has been shipping since April 2000. It is the only card certified by Apple Computer for 10 bit uncompressed editing with Final Cut Pro 2.0. When not being used for real-time video, all models of D1 Desktop 64 output as a second Mac monitor via the SDI output. This allows full frame live paint into the broadcast monitor with applications such as Adobe Photoshop. Working onto a broadcast monitor allows color, field flicker and aliasing problems to be instantly seen and corrected, and the pixel aspect ratio problems are eliminated.

D1 Desktop 64AV, with audio features for edit, retails at US$3,495.
