Digital Voodoo Ships Iridium SD Broadcast Design Card for Mac

Uncompressed 10 Bit SDI Broadcast Design Card With Two Built In SDI Outputs As Well As One Composite Output For Preview (December 05, 2001)
Digital Voodoo is now shipping its Iridium SD, a standard definition output-only broadcast design card featuring two 10 bit broadcast SDI outputs and one composite output for composite preview.

Iridium SD is designed specifically for broadcast designers and graphic artists who want the flexibility of viewing their work on either a broadcast SDI monitor or on a standard NTSC or PAL video monitor. For those working in standard definition with Adobe After Effects or PhotoShop, Discreet's Combustion, Toolfarm's ColorTheory DV or Boris FX, Iridium SD offers quality video output for the Macintosh.

Iridium SD is compatible with all standard definition design applications for the Macintosh. Users can work with uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2:4 or 4:4:4:4 dual link video directly in YUV colorspace.

"Many of our customers have suggested that we enhance our current product offering by providing on board composite output on an aggressively priced output only card so that designers without SDI monitors can view their work on regular NTSC or PAL video monitors," said Matt Dowling, Product Manager for Digital Voodoo. "Now everyone can use the highest quality output card for broadcast design and motion graphics without busting their bank accounts."

Key Features of Iridium SD include:

* Fully digital SMPTE 259M 10 bit SDI output
* Real-time uncompressed 10 bit QuickTime playback without any kind of video compression
* Can be selected to operate in either 525 (NTSC) or 625 (PAL) television systems
* Functions as a second Mac monitor when not in use for real-time uncompressed playback
* Built-in safe area generator helps when using applications that don't include this function
* Video genlock, allows Iridium SD to be locked to station reference

Iridium SD is shipping now, from all Digital Voodoo resellers. It retails for $1695US, and is bundled with Digital Voodoo's Media Transfer application. Media Transfer permits the frame accurate capture and insertion from and to RS-422 controllable digital tape decks such as Sony's Digital Betacam decks.
