Digital Magic Purchases da Vinci's 2K Plus and Toolbox2

Brings digital intermediate suite to Hong Kong (October 03, 2005)

da Vinci Systems today announced that Hong Kong-based post house Digital Magic has equipped its brand-new digital intermediate (DI) suite with a 2K Plus system that includes Toolbox2. Digital Magic's state-of-the-art color enhancement system features the world-renowned 2K Plus toolset with PowerWindows, PowerTiers, and Defocus Plus -- for unparalleled control in producing creative color effects.

"The capabilities and performance of our new da Vinci system have been fantastic, and with the help of our colorists, our clients have already been using the improved flexibility it provides to achieve new looks in their movies and TV commercials," said Percy Fung, production director at Digital Magic. "We greatly appreciate the power of the 2K Plus and Toolbox2 in being able to apply artistic light-filtration simulations in real time. There is a great improvement in our workflow with our new system compared to a raw data-based operation."

A fixture in the Hong Kong color enhancement industry for over 30 years, Digital Magic debuted its advanced DI suite in early June. According to Fung, the company's colorists have found the 2K Plus with Toolbox2 to be easy to learn and use. Digital Magic can now achieve an impressive level of geographical area isolation, color qualification, and image defocus through use of the system's multiple window shapes and Defocus channels. One of the first applications for the new system is remastering "Silver Love," an artistic movie originally mastered on 16-mm film, for 35-mm cinematic release.
