Digital Kitchen garners 2 EMMY nods

Dexter, The Path to 9/11 recognized for Outstanding Main Title Design (July 24, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-7-24--Seattle/Chicago/New York-based Digital Kitchen (DK) has been honored with two nominations at the 59th Creative Arts Emmy Awards.  DK received the nods for "Dexter" and "The Path to 9/11" under the Outstanding Main Title Design category.  The category was introduced at the Creative Arts Emmys in 2000 and honors innovative approaches in title design.  As an all-inclusive creative shop, DK came up with the concepts for both title sequences in addition to producing, editing and generating the VFX -- collaborating with the show producers throughout.

The title sequence for the Showtime series "Dexter" captures with haunting effectiveness, a serial killer's morning routine.  Stemming from the observation that the most innocent of images, i.e. a flower blooming, can look explosive and violent under time-lapse photography, the sequence highlights the powerful menace just beneath the surface of everyday events.  Ordinary everyday items shot in extraordinary ways, create deceptively simply imagery, which is the perfect introduction to the deceptively simple character of Dexter.

"The Path to 9/11" titles capture another morning: the "pre-impact" hours before 9/11 as seen through the eyes of ordinary New Yorkers.  Feeling that existing stock footage didn't achieve enough of an imperfect personal POV, DK sent out three of their creatives to reproduce that fated morning.  3D and animation were integrated into the footage resulting in a stirring 2:30-minute piece of filmmaking.

DK's 2007 Emmy nods mark nine nominations in total over the past six years.  The 59th  Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place September 8th and the Primetime Emmy Awards will take place September 16 th.
