Digital Film Labs Wraps Post-Production on The Badge

Also completed almost 100 opticals digitally By DMN Staff Writer
Digital Film Labs recently wrapped up post-production work on The Badge (formerly titled Behind The Sun), written and directed by Robby Henson for Propaganda Films and Maven Entertainment.

In addition to creating the main title sequence for this southern crime drama-with-a-twist, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Patricia Arquette, and Sela Ward, Digital Film Labs also completed almost 100 opticals digitally.

?The kind of work they did was exactly what we neededa computer effects house that could handle a variety of opticals, color, effects, dissolves and even titles?and the one stop shopping was cost effective, says Henson.

The film was edited by Michael Duthie (Stigmata, 3000 Miles To Graceland) whose frenetic style adds a lot of comic energy to the film. ?We didnt have to compromise the look of the opticals, they came out exactly as I edited, commented Duthie. ?Michaels unique cutting style provided many challenges for me as a digital artist, his use of multiple speed changes resulted in opticals that resembled a visual effect more than a traditional optical remarked Lead Artist, Dan Walker.

?As Digital Opticals become more the norm we are able to offer a full package to filmmakers, says Ziad Seirafi Digital Film Labs, digital effects supervisor on the film. ?We take full 2K 10-bit color resolution throughout the process. Even veteran color timers cant pick out our opticals once theyre timed in.

?Our negative went into his computer and came back to film with pristine clarity, emphasizes Henson, ?I plan to work with Ziad, Dan and the team again on the next project.
