Digital Element To Ship Verdant Plugin

Photoshop filter brings 3D foliage to Photoshop By Dave Nagel
Digital Element, a developer of plugins for Photoshop, LightWave and After Effects, says it's gearing up to release a new plugin for Adobe Photoshop called Verdant. Verdant is a plugin designed for the creation and manipulation of foliage imagery. The company also says it's preparing to launch an update to Aurora and a new After Effects plugin called Aurora Water.

Verdant, which is scheduled to ship May 8, allows users to create and place 3D trees and plants in Photoshop compositions. It also allows users to rotate, randomize and scale plants; modify branches and leaves; and age plants. The plugin will include 10 plants, and those who preorder the software by May 5 will also receive a free one-year subscription to the Plant of the Month service (for 12 additional plants). Plants can also be custom ordered from a library of 60,000 individual models. It sells for $179 for the download version, $199 for the CD. Platform requirements were not available as of this writing.

Digital Element also says it will ship Aurora 2 sometime in May. Aurora is a plugin for Photoshop for creating landscapes, seascapes and sky effects. The new version gains enhanced cloud features, including new algorithms and the ability to shape clouds using Bezier curves. It will also gain improvements to the handling of layer intersections and will be able to handle underwater scenes. The interface will also be revamped. Aurora 2 will sell for $179, with updates running $99. (The current version is available for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.)

Finally, the company says it's working on a new After Effects and Final Cut Pro plugin called Aurora Water, which is designed to complement the existing Aurora Sky plugin. Aurora Water, as its name implies, will be designed for creating water effects within After Effects. It will focus on small water pool dynamics, reflections and underwater dynamics. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
