Digidesign Shows New Pro Tools HD 7.2 at NABPro Tools LE 7.1.1 Universal Binary on the way as free update
Digidesign has revealed new versions of its Pro Tools HD system, as well as Pro Tools LE software, including a Universal Binary version of Pro Tools LE. The news was revealed last night during an Avid press event at the convention of the National Association of Broadcasters, held in Las Vegas.
Pro Tools|HD 7.2
Included in the company's presentation was details about Pro Tools|HD 7.2. The new release is slated for rollout in the second half of 2006 and will incorporate several new features targeted specifically toward NLE workflows. These include integrated video editing capabilities, such as editing video in the timeline; the ability to work with multiple tracks and playlists; the ability to play QuickTime files through AVoption|V10 and Avid Mojo; and the ability to bounce audio and video to QuickTime. It also offers new multi-channel field audio features; various new automation features (such as plugin parameter linking, new automation modes and more); plus new integration features for working with Avid systems, expected to be implemented in the second half of 2006 in Avid and Pro Tools systems. These include:
? New Send to Pro Tools templates;
? The ability to send audio mixdowns to Pro Tools, along with additional audio tracks;
? The ability to import a mixed-down video sequence, along with cut information.
Pro Tools|HD 7.2 is expected to be available int eh second half of 2006 for an upgrade fee of $199.
Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered 7.1.1
In addition to Pro Tools|HD, Digidesign also previewed a forthcoming release of Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered. The upcoming version 7.1.1 will be available as a Universal Binary to enable native support for Intel-based Mac systems. No further information is currently available on the Universal Binary versions except that they will be available as free software upgrades some time next month.
And the rest
The company also previewed a new technology for users of ICON and Pro Tools|HD systems to work with Avid HD picture without requiring rendering of effects or exporting to AAF. This technology offers synchronized playback of Avid sequences and Pro Tools sessions on separate machines and support for DNxHD and other Avid HD resolutions.
Other previews of new Pro Tools technologies included:
? A new Surround Panner option from JL Cooper Electronics for ICON D-Command and Pro Tools|HD. It will be available in the third quarter for $1,695.
? Forthcoming integration with Avid's new Interplay technology, expected to be implemented in late 2006 or early 2007.
? Unity ISIS Push/Pull support for Pro Tools|HD running on Windows XP systems. This technology is also expected to be integrated some time around the end of this year or early next.
