Digidesign Ships Digi 002 Rack

FireWire-based Pro Tools system offers 18 simultaneous channels of I/O By Dave Nagel
Digidesign today started shipping its new Digi 002 Rack, a 2U FireWire-based Pro Tools LE system. The initial version is available for Mac OS X 10.2.5 or later, with a Windows version expected to come later with the Pro Tools 6.1 release.

The Digi 002 Rack records at sample rates up to 96 kHz and offers tools for editing, mixing, mastering and delivery. It includes an audio interfacewith up to 18 simultaneous channels of I/O; MIDI I/O (one in, two out); 24-bit/96 kHz A/D/A; and four built-in mic pres. The software supports 32 tracks of 24- or 16-bit audio, as well as integrated MIDI sequencing and real-time mixing and processing.

According to Digidesign, Digi 002 sessions are fully compatible with other Pro Tools environments. The software supports RTAS plugins as well and includes its own DigiRack plugin bundle. Other features include:

  • Eight discrete analog inputs;
  • Eight discrete analog outputs;
  • 24-bit/96 kHz converters;
  • Eight channels of ADAT optical I/O;
  • Two channels of S/PDIF I/O;
  • MIDI I/O with one input port and two output ports (16 channels in/32 out).
