Digidesign ICON Chosen for Bonnaroo FestivalOver 30 bands to be recorded and mixed on ICON for digital download (June 11, 2004)
Digidesign is excited to participate in this weekends Bonnaroo Festival as the exclusive audio recording provider to the events recording production company, Third Wave Productions. Third Wave is in charge of recording and mixing over thirty complete live performances for digital download on LiveBonnaroo.com. Bonnaroo is a three-day camping and music festival held June 11-13, 2004, on a 600-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles southeast of Nashville.
Over eighty live acts are performing on six stages at this years event, thirty of which are being recorded and mixed on Digidesign and Focusrite equipment. That gear includes two complete Digidesign ICON mixing systems with Pro Tools|HD 3 Accel mix engines and multiple Digidesign 192 I/O and 96 I/O interfaces, as well as Digidesign PRE, Focusrite OctoPre, and Focusrite ISA 428 preamps. Digidesign ProControl and Control|24 control surfaces will also be used during the recording process. A total of nine fully integrated Pro Tools digital audio workstations will rest on the backbone of a six-terabyte Avid Unity MediaNetwork server which allows a flexible workflow suited to live events with multiple stages.
?Were very excited to be chosen by Third Wave as the exclusive audio recording providers for Bonnaroo, states Dave Lebolt, Digidesign general manager. ?The use of ICON and Pro Tools to capture one of the largest music festivals in the country further demonstrates the strength, flexibility, and reliability of our products as end-to-end solutions. People should no longer be surprised to see our systems used for a variety of applications, even on remote farms in the middle of Tennessee.
Through Third Wave Productions utilization of Digidesigns technology for the recording and mixing process, the Bonnaroo organizers are able to give fans the opportunity to extend the enjoyment of live music beyond the festival weekend through digital downloads on LiveBonnaroo.com. The website is the festivals new online outlet offering digital, downloadable recordings of live performances from the festival soon after they take place. In addition to full sets from the festival in MP3 and FLAC formats, LiveBonnaroo.com will provide downloadable album artwork, CD labels, liner notes, and live photos. With the vast selection of high-quality artists performing at Bonnaroo, LiveBonnaroo.com presents an unprecedented opportunity for fans to enjoy the magic of live music.
?It simply would not have been possible to provide these digital downloads without the latest technology from Digidesign, states Hank Neuberger, managing partner of Third Wave Productions. ?The timeframe that was mandated to us by the show producers necessitated unprecedented solutions. Digidesign is the only company that had the goods to accomplish this monumental feat in the midst of heat and humidity, on time and on budget. It just would not be possible without Digidesign.
?ICON, Pro Tools|HD Accel, Avid Unity, and all the expertise that Digidesign has brought to this festival have been invaluable and absolutely necessary to the success of what we have been charged to accomplish, states Terry Fryer, managing partner of Third Wave Productions.
?Were excited about the use of our technology to allow music fans fast access to the amazing performances coming off the stage at Bonnaroo, states Lebolt. ?What Third Wave does is revolutionizing the way people can get their music?and that helps drive sales of the participating artists studio albums as well, so everyone benefits.
