Demian Gordon to Supervise Spectrum StudiosPioneer in the field of optical motion capture (July 25, 2001)
"We're thrilled with the addition of Demian Gordon to our Motion Capture team. He brings a high level of creativity and knowledge to the studio," says Stephen Brain, COO of Spectrum Studios. "His wealth of proven Motion Capture experience will be invaluable to our continued growth."
As a founding member of the world’s largest optical motion capture studio, Electronic Arts Canada, Gordon brings his expertise to Spectrum Studios and now heads his first project with Spectrum Studios, Warner Bros’ highly anticipated Matrix 2 and 3 starring Keanu Reeves. "When I completed the test with Spectrum for the pitch for Matrix 2 and Matrix 3, I knew I had found a new home," he said.
Leaving one of the largest CG animation studios in Canada, he headed for L.A. to run the team. "I knew we needed to push the envelope to work on Matrix," he continues. "For what the filmmakers wanted, they were essentially asking us to push the boundaries of Motion Capture technology. In the end, we were able not only to meet those needs, but have since surpassed any expectations we could have dreamed of, paving a new path in the field of Motion Capture."
Working with 28 cameras to achieve one of the largest physical capture volumes, and setting new standards for capturing and tracking motion data, Gordon is helping redefine motion capture technology for the film industry, providing the capability to capture high intensity moves, with up to 17 people simultaneously.
Gordon’s work on previous film, television and video game projects include tours at Mainframe Entertainment, Pacific Title/Mirage, Performance Capture Studios, Outcast Ltd, and as a Consultant and Trainer to Biovision. He recently completed Sinbad, Beyond the Veil of Mists starring Brendan Fraser and Leonard Nimoy, for Pentamedia/Trimark Pictures. For television, he was Motion Capture Studio Director for Mainframe Entertainment on the 26 episode CG series Action Man for Hasbro/MGM and the 40 episode CG series Heavy Gear for Sony/Fox. He also supervised The Nuttiest Nutcracker, a CBS MOW for Pacific Title/Mirage.
Gordon has worked in video game production in various capacities. He worked extensively with EA sports as Senior Motion Capture Technical Specialist on such projects as FIFA 97/98, NHL 97/98/99, RoadRash 3D and College Hoop. Prior to his career in Motion Capture, he was involved with a number of live action feature films including The Sisterhood, Wes Craven’s The Outpost, Rumble in the Bronx, Not Our Son, Texas Heat, Someone To Die For, Hard Evidence, Suzy Q, Annie O. and Robin of Locksley.
"As the recognized preeminent authority of Motion Capture, Demian is the kind of creative leader that suits the plan we have for Spectrum Studios and Global Animation," says David Forbes, CEO of Global Animation. "We expect to see the future of Motion Capture at Spectrum and in the industry to change with Demian’s vision and our commitment."
