PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' Nearly 50 members of Occupy Philadelphia are sitting, idling and arms linked, as a deadline to leave the site of their protest set by the city passed without any immediate action.
Mayor Michael Nutter set the deadline for demonstrators to remove their belongings. Some have already done so and others were in the process of tearing down their tents. Others vowed to remain, saying the importance of their message outweighed long set plans to renovate the plaza in the heart of the city
Police are monitoring the sit-in, calling it a peaceful demonstration. Occupy Philadelphia is scheduled to hold a general assembly meeting later Sunday at 7 p.m. EST.
The national movement has another deadline Sunday. Protesters in Occupy Los Angeles face an eviction deadline of midnight Pacific.
