David Edelstein and Arlan Smith Form Nth DegreeCombine their collective experience in broadcast design and branding (November 29, 2004)
David Edelstein and Arlan Smith have combined their collective award-winning experience in broadcast design and branding to create the new entity Nth Degree. The just-launched company provides clients with the full design palette – from complete image and brand development to exciting motion graphics for commercials, promos and main titles. Edelstein will serve as Executive Producer and Smith as Creative Director, with specific creative teams selected on a project-specific basis. The company opened its doors with two projects, one for BET and another for HBO.
“We are very excited to join forces and launch Nth Degree, which is the culmination of our experience and the next step for both of us. Our goal is to bring together the best of what we’ve experienced in our careers to date,” says David Edelstein.
“Nth Degree is a new voice in the design and branding arena, one that brings fresh talent managed by trusted sources,” adds Arlan Smith. “For me, this is a great opportunity to develop a creative house that works in what we call a decentralized model – allowing for flexibility and diversification of style.”
Creative Director Arlan Smith brings extensive experience in all aspects of television and film production/post-production to his role at Nth Degree. Working with a myriad of desktop technologies, Smith has earned a reputation for inventive concepts with a streamlined, fresh creative process. He has contributed to projects for such notable clients as Food Network, Discovery Networks, Oxygen, Comcast, Metro Channel and HBO and has collaborated with numerous agencies including Grey, Saatchi & Saatchi and BBDO. Smith began his career at Videoworks and then at Post Perfect, before opening his own shop Noise. He then freelanced in New York working both in-house and for design and post companies including Click 3X.
Executive Producer David Edelstein is widely known for co-founding award-winning branding and design company FDG. The boutique company made a distinct imprint on the broadcast arena via its compelling projects for Sci-Fi Channel, Fox, CNN, Comedy Central, USA Network, BET, MSNBC and HBO. Prior to FDG, Edelstein was Producer at Showtime Network. At Showtime, he worked on a multiple BDA Gold-winning campaign for "The Hunger,” series launches for Stargate, Dead Man's Gun and Poltergeist as well as promos for Showtime Original Movies starring Sidney Poitier, Christine Lahti and Richard Dreyfuss.
