Dallas Pastor Ed Young Cautions Against Declining Intimacy in Digital AgeA New Article Warns That Digital Technology Is Causing Intimacy to Decline -- a Finding That Has Drawn the Concern, and the Comment, of Dallas Pastor Ed Young (July 03, 2012)
GRAPEVINE, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 07/03/12 -- There is no question that digital technology increases quality of life in a number of ways -- but there are also ways in which it can pose drawbacks. A recent article by the Huffington Post illuminates one drawback, in particular -- namely, that the convenience and ease of communicating digitally has led to a decline in face-to-face communication, and even in basic human intimacy. The article says that intimacy in general is seeing a decline in the Digital Age -- a finding that has won the concern, and the comment, of Dallas pastor and author Ed Young.
The Huffington Post report claims that many individuals are increasingly prioritizing the detached communication options offered by online and mobile technology, and sacrificing more direct and intimate forms of communication. Ed Young has spent much of his pastoral career preaching and teaching about the importance of intimacy, and he has responded to the Huffington Post article with a press statement of his own.
"Our society is characterized by instant gratification," says Ed Young in his new statement to the press. "Today's world is driven by technology and too many couples do not truly connect with one another. To create a successful marriage, a couple must create a strong sense of intimacy. While it is a shame that the great innovations of today's society have compromised the strength of some of our personal relationships, this article has provided readers with some wonderful insight into reconnecting with people on a more personal level."
Intimacy is a topic on which Dallas pastor Ed Young can speak with authority; in addition to years of pastoral ministry, he has recently penned a well-received new book, Sexperiment, in which he addresses the topic of sexual intimacy within the confines of marriage. Young writes that many married couples, particularly Christians, underplay the important benefits that sex can offer; in reality, however, he contends that regular intimacy is vital for a happy marriage.
Particularly, Young writes that sexual intimacy can offer married couples improved communication, and heightened standards of purity. Furthermore, sexual intimacy provides married couples with a greater sense of unity, and with a stronger understanding of God's purpose for the marriage.
In addition to listing the benefits of marital intimacy, Ed Young also offers his readers a challenge. Specifically, Sexperiment exhorts Christian married couples to have sex together every day for a full week, and to see how their married relationship improves as a result.
Young wrote Sexperiment with his wife, Lisa, and bases his teachings on his own married experience as well as years of pastoral ministry.
The founding pastor of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas, Ed Young is the author of more than a dozen books. His latest publication, written alongside his wife, Lisa, is Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy with Your Spouse. In addition to preaching about the importance of a healthy sexual relationship within a marriage, Ed Young is known for his insight into topics related to families and parenting.
