DUCK Studios Produces Trailer For GKC TheatresTrailer captures the excitement of the movie experience (July 02, 2004)
DUCK Studios, a.k.a. Duck Soup Studios, recently completed a trailer for Midwest theatre chain, GKC Theatres. Formed in 1985 by George Kerasotes, GKC Theatres is now the 15th largest theatre chain in the U.S. and is known for its ultra-modern, multiplex cinemas that strive to offer its customers the best in the movie-going experience.
When it came time to create a promotional trailer for its growing multiplex theatre chain, GKC Theatres contacted DUCK Studios to create and produce a trailer. With input from GKC Theatres, the studio went to work on a concept for the trailer that would meet the theatres needs and yet be enjoyable to moviegoers.
After listening to a few different ideas from the studio, director Erik Deutschman eventually won the challenge to create a trailer that would incorporate all the topic elements desired by the client and be able to withstand multiple viewings. Deutschman created a spot that he describes as "a mix of layered, constantly moving graphic elements that at times interact with each other." The result was a "busy, dynamic piece, designed so that it couldn't be absorbed in one viewing, " says Deutschman. The visually appealing trailer captures the excitement of the movie experience.
The trailer uses a mixture of live actors and pieces of animation, in silhouette that remind viewers of the thrill of going to the movies. To create the trailer, actors were shot on digital video, and additional 3D elements were created with the use of Alias Maya. The live and 3D elements were then assembled in AfterEffects. Efilm handled the film output back to film.
In addition to director Erik Deutschman, the DUCK Studios team included executive producer Mark Medernach, technical director Laura Sasso, modeler David Hovanky, compositor Kyle Borth, and additional mattes by Jason Stellwag. The actors are Melissa Timme, Devin Reeve, and Jason Singleton. Additional creative input from GKC Theatres came from President Beth Kerasotes, VP of Operations/Marketing Jim Whitman, Exec. VP of Film & Marketing Bryan Jeffries, Director of Marketing Heidi Cravens, and VP of Concessions Krystal LaReese-Gaule.
