DMOD Announces DMOD WorkSpace for Secure Digital Media Collaboration and Distribution(January 11, 2002)
Using the DMOD WorkSpace, digital media professionals can take advantage of the public Internet to securely share media files on a wide range of projects, including music CDs, films, film trailers, film scores, television programming, special effects, and DVDs. When compared with traditional file sharing and distribution methods, the DMOD WorkSpace offers increased asset control, lower costs, faster turnaround and review cycles, and less risk of intrusion.
The DMOD WorkSpace is available in two offerings: the DMOD WorkSpace Desktop, a peer-to-peer application, available today; and DMOD WorkSpace Gateway, a client/server architecture available in Spring 2002. Both offerings are sold directly by DMOD.
Lowering Costs, Securely at RCA Records, Digital Film Works ?We saved over $11,000 on a single three-week project using DMOD WorkSpace," said Brian Malouf, senior vice president, A&R for RCA Records. "From my New York office, I was able to securely download and review songs tracked and mixed in Nashville, while also keeping tabs on other projects. Without the DMOD WorkSpace, I would have spent several days on the road supporting the recording of this single album. That's a significant savings in time and travel expenses.
?We work on feature film effects long before the films are released, and must sign Non-Disclosure Agreements with our clients not to disclose anything about their works in progress, said Peter W. Moyer, president of Digital Film Works, a full-service visual effects facility in Los Angeles and a user of DMODs system. ?If we had sent work over the open Internet for client review, it could have been leaked, and wed have created a huge problem with our clients. DMODs WorkSpace greatly streamlines the review and approval process and is a lot easier and cheaper to use than our VPN solution. It lets us reach our clients no matter where they are, at the office or remotely with their laptop. It also gives us more control to send any type of media file, or send just specific frames.
Leveraging the Internet without Risk While many industries have adopted use of the public Internet as a means of managing business processes more efficiently, security concerns have prevented the media industries from taking full advantage of the ubiquitous network. Pirated digital dailies, rough cuts, and early releases of content threaten the artist and brand image, as well as revenue. Rather than risk unsecured communications via the Internet, digital content creators often revert to linear production methods, dubbing audio or video assets and sending them via overnight delivery services for review and approval or further production. This process is inefficient, costly, and open to security breaches. The process of compressing and dubbing can also cause degradation of audio and video content quality.
DMOD securely delivers content over the Internet while also protecting the original fidelity of both compressed and uncompressed content. DMOD's security is completely transparent, allowing users to focus on the work at hand, not the technologies that protect it.
?Entertainment company executives have told us in great detail about the gaps in their digital workflow process, and how painfully aware they are that their digital assets are exposed to security intrusions, said Mark Overington, president and CEO of DMOD. ?We at DMOD are committed to leading the industry with solutions that slice time and costs out of the digital media production process, while providing the highest level of security and control over digital assets. Our new DMOD WorkSpace solution is a tremendous step in the right direction for both big and small firms that must be increasingly cost-efficient and yet safe.
