DLP Shipments Pass 1,000,000

Texas Instruments ships 250,000 DLP subsystems in last eight months (December 17, 2001)
Texas Instruments announced that shipments of DLP subsystems had topped the 1,000,000 mark. TI had announced in April this year that shipments of DLP subsystems - which are at the heart of many of the industry's most popular projectors - had exceeded 750,000 since the first units were delivered to customers in early 1996.

The success of DLP technology, the company says, can be attributed to the fact that it uniquely enables the development of projectors and displays which feature the industry's leading combination of outstanding image quality in compact, lightweight, elegant products. Beyond this, projectors featuring DLP technology offer a substantially superior lumens/pound ratio, delivering substantially more brightness per pound of weight than is possible with competing technologies. The world's lightest projectors - weighing just 2lbs - have also been uniquely enabled by DLP technology.

"As we make this landmark announcement, we stand poised at the beginning of an exciting year for DLP technology," concluded John Van Scoter, General Manager of DLP Products and Vice President of Texas Instruments. "Thus far, our success has been derived mostly from the business projector market, but 2002 will be the year when we expect to also become a major force in products for home entertainment applications. The Consumer Electronics Show next month will see a number of household name manufacturers showcasing innovative solutions based on DLP technology which will come to market during the year, and which we expect will enjoy considerable success."
