Cycore Effects HD16-bit effects for Adobe After Effects
Cycore plug-ins have always been very popular for those working in the Adobe After Effects world. Different ways of warping, bending, and changing layers in the Timeline was made possible with Final Effects, one of the early AE plug-ins. When After Effects 6.5 shipped it included Cycore FX which included many of the same effects found in Final Effects but for free. Now Cycore has released Cycore Effects HD 1.0, the 16-bit version of these popular effects.
I have been using Cycore Effects HD for a while now, and have been very pleased with the results. For those working in a high resolution environment having 16-bit effects allows for more subtle transitions in many of the 62 effects including effects like Light Rays and the blur effects.
In addition to the numerous effects that already ship with After Effects 6.5, Cycore Effects HD includes three new effects; CC Environment, CC WarpoMatic, and CC Plastic.
CC Environment enables you to take a Spherical Panoramic image (obtained from a program like RealViz Stitcher) and drop it into a Comp that includes an AE Camera to create an instant world.
What is nice about this effect is you dont have to worry about creating 3D layers. Instead the AE camera and CC Environment work together. You can pan and tilt around the scene with ease.
This effect has great meaning for those who are generating a virtual environment for their green screen actors, especially when you can bring in a rendered Spherical Image from your 3D app and camera motion data from the set.
WarpoMatic gives you the ability to use luminance, contrast differences, brightness, and local differences to warp between layers.
If used and tweaked just right, you could actually use this to recreate the transition popular in the B*witched Cest La Vie music video.
The final new addition to Cycore Effects HD is CC Plastic. If you have ever needed to create a shrink wrapped effect to a layer, CC Plastic is the one to go to.
Cycore Effects HD also includes all of the other effects found in the free version of Cycore Effects that ship with After Effects 6.5, but with the advantage of being 16-bit instead of 8-bit.
Are you going to find all of these effects useful? That depends on what type of project you are working on and your ability to see past the surface/default use of the effect and apply it creatively in other situations.
