Cycling '74 Debuts Pluggo 3.1, Radial 1.1 for Mac OS X

MAX/MSP to gain OctiMax dynamics processing By Dave Nagel
At the AES convention in New York, audio software developer Cycling '74 debuted new versions of Radial and Pluggo, both of which gain Mac OS X support. The company also announced that it's integrating Octiv OctiMax dynamics processing into Max/MSP.

Both Radial and Pluggo gain Mac OS X support in their latest versions. Radial is an extensible loop-based composition and performance tool for Macintosh that combines capabilities for live performance, sound design and composition. The new 1.1 release adds support for Core Audio and Core MIDI in Mac OS X. It also adds several general enhancements, including new file grouping and improved sync capabilities.

Pluggo is a native audio processing plugin. Version 3.1 adds compatibility with Mac OS X and also gains support for Audio Units, making it compatible with Emagic Logic Audio, Apple Final Cut Pro (and Soundtrack) and MOTU Digital Performer 4. It includes more than 100 real-time audio effects, as well as a set of synthesizers and samplers. Pluggo effects include filtering, delay effects, distortion, granular synthesis, audio routing, sampling and synthesis, reverb and sound localization. It also offers modulation, synchronization and audio and control routing capabilities between plugins, according to the company.

MAX/MSP is an interactive audio development environment that will add a new OctiMax dynamics processing suite in version 4.5, which is expected to be out by the middle of next year. The package includes a peak limiter, compressor/gate four-band dynamics processor and a five-band dynamics processor. The new processing objects can be combined with other signal processing objects within the Max/MSP environment for processing of live inputs or playback of sampled program material.

The new version of Radial is expected to ship in early November as a free update for current users. The full version runs $199. Pluggo 3.1 will be available in mid-November. Cycling '74 has not announced upgrade pricing, if any. The OctiMax dynamics processing suite will be available in version 4.5 of Max/MSP, set for release in the second quarter of 2004.
