Cut + Run To Open In NYCChuck Willis & Steve Gandolfi partner in company?s East Coast expansion (November 22, 2004)
Under the leadership of Chuck Willis, Cut + Run will open an office in the heart of New Yorks SoHo neighborhood. In addition to creative editorial, Cut + Run/NY will be proud to offer graphics, visual effects and compositing.
?We are opening Cut + Run/NY because we believe in the strength of alliances, says Chuck Willis. ?We have had a kinship with Cut + Run Owner Steve Gandolfi for several years, are admirers of his work and have respect for the creative impact Cut + Run has on the editorial community.
?We thought this venture would be a great opportunity to shake things up a bit and open a creative editorial boutique in the vibrant atmosphere of SoHo, adds executive producer, Susan Willis. ?We also liked the opportunity to combine forces with the best talent in the industry and have a home base for our work in both Los Angeles and London.
Cut + Run/NY features the creative editorial talent of Chuck Willis whose recent projects include commercials for Bud Light (directed by Tim Godsall), ESPN (Joe Pytka), Canon (Pam Thomas) and Samsung (Malik Sayeed), as well as the new season open for Saturday Night Live. Chuck Willis is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston with a BFA in Film and Television and minors in Photography and Theater. Upon his arrival in New York, Willis began splitting his time acting and directing in the theater while learning everything he could about film editing. Having gone through the ranks of several commercial editing houses Willis made the decision to concentrate on creative editorial and opened Crew Cuts. Always trying to stay one step ahead in a highly creative and competitive industry, Willis left his old company earlier this year and seized the opportunity to form this partnership with highly respected editor Steve Gandolfi of Cut & Run/London.
Willis clients include Wieden + Kennedy, Cliff Freeman and Partners, Goodby, Silverstein + Partners, BBDO, J. Walter Thompson, DDB Worldwide, The Martin Agency, Fallon, Grey Worldwide, CCA, DCA, Lowe, McCann-Erickson, Saatchi & Saatchi, Young & Rubicam, Arnold Worldwide, and FCB San Francisco, to name a few.
One of the industrys top editors, Willis has garnered numerous awards including Clios, Addys, Gold Lions, London International, and an Emmy nomination. Side projects for Chuck Willis include directing and editing several award-winning dramatic short films, as well as writing, directing, and acting in the television pilot ?The BoatYard.
Susan Willis, the companys Executive Producer, is currently overseeing construction and is interviewing editors and other key staff additions in anticipation of the February 2005 opening. During construction the duo is operating out of temporary space via the "incredibly gracious" Homestead Editorial on a variety of projects.
Susan Willis started her advertising career in 1993 as a receptionist at Grey Worldwide NY. Within months of greeting everyone at the door and using weekends and late nights to help out the production department, she was promoted to assistant producer. Susan left Grey Worldwide in 1998 as a producer having numerous P&G, M&M Mars, and Kraft Foods productions under her belt. Susan then decided to freelance, producing campaigns for The NFL and did projects for BBDO NY and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners before settling into her role as a Senior Producer at BBDO.
In Susans three years at BBDO she produced numerous spots for Pepsi, M&M Mars, FedEx, Frito Lay, Visa, Office Depot and Pizza Hut to name a few. Cut + Run opened its doors in Los Angeles in June of 2004 under the leadership of Editor/Owner Dan Swietlik and Executive Director Christie Cash.
