Crossover Media Group Launches "Videogame Transmedia"Trade publication and information service launches to critical acclaim (October 01, 2004)
Crossover Media Group, LLC today announced the launching of "Videogames Transmedia," the first and only trade publication and information service that focuses on the convergence of interactive entertainment with other mainstream forms of entertainment including Hollywood, music, sports, exhibitions, and advertising.
With first-rate reporting by recognized industry names, and no-spin analysis of the B2B stories that are happening now, "Videogames Transmedia" is uniquely positioned to help executives stay on top of, and better understand, this rapidly evolving phenomenon.
"The rapid, parallel growth of interdependence and misunderstanding between the Hollywood and videogame communities creates a compelling need for commentary and explanation. 'VG' is a group of veteran reporters, perfectly suited to provide the requisite insight," said Keith Boesky, head of the games division at ICM (International Creative Management).
Until now, executives had to pore through a number of websites and print publications covering different businesses to get their information on convergence stories and issues.
"To be sure, there are many excellent print and online sources where readers can find some information on convergence, whether it's the top gaming websites or the Hollywood trade pubs. But even in 2004, there are no news vehicles that focus exclusively on it," said Joe Funk, Editor of "Videogames Transmedia." "We aim to fill a niche, and save readers time and money by bringing all of this information together into one source."
"Ask anyone in Hollywood where the future of entertainment is headed and the answer is interactive entertainment," said John Gaudiosi, managing editor, "Videogames Transmedia." "We'll provide in-depth analysis and stories tracking the convergence of games with movies, music, TV and advertising as corporate America and traditional entertainment searches for new ways to capitalize on the burgeoning success of the videogame industry."
"Videogames Transmedia" is a subscription-based information service created by writers and editors who have made key contributions to such outlets as "Electronic Gaming Monthly," "GameSpot," "GameDaily," "The Official Playstation Magazine," "Variety," "The Washington Post," "The Hollywood Reporter," "Entertainment Weekly," the "San Jose Mercury News," "Rolling Stone," "USA Today," "ESPN.com," "Wired Magazine," "Playboy Magazine," and others.
Written and edited by industry experts, "VG" picks up where everyone else leaves off, and is the only one-stop resource for busy executives, insiders, and wannabes who want to stay in lock-step with this inexorable march.
"'Videogames Transmedia' provides great insight into the machinations of the interactive entertainment business. As the new mass media for this millennium, those who follow the interactive industry will appreciate the unique coverage 'VG' offers," said Joseph Olin, President, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.
The first issue was published in electronic format in September 2004.
