Creative Group Purchases Two Sony XPRI Systems For HD PostNew York-based facility establishes real-time HD non-linear editing for TV projects (July 29, 2005)
Creative Group, known for its integration of advanced post-production technology, has installed two Sony XPRI non-linear editing systems in its New York facility. Initially intended for post production of the 24-hour high-definition FangoriaTV cable channel, the new systems have also been used by Creative Group to post HD broadcast projects from NBC and iNDemand, a provider of video-on-demand and pay-per-view programming, according to Creative Group.
Creative Group distinguished itself by building the first HD online post-production rooms in New York, and its acquisition of the XPRI systems is the latest step in its efforts to establish non-linear HD post production among the city's program producers.
"Program production is in full swing for the first 24-hour horror genre channel, FangoriaTV, and the amount of HD-originated content being produced is astounding," said Tom DeFeo, vice president of Creative Group and president of Moe Greene Entertainment, creator of FangoriaTV. "The huge volume of work dictated our decision to invest in non-linear HD systems. In researching all the available options, the XPRI system's real-time effects, native HD storage efficiency and tactile GUI for color correction and audio controls were distinct advantages over competing systems. The development of the two XPRI rooms and the migration of the technology into our overall infrastructure have been seamless."
In addition to the XPRI system purchases, Creative Group has also acquired Sony HDW-F900 CineAlta and DVCAM camcorders for FangoriaTV program production.
"Our editors like how fast they can jockey around HD content on the XPRI system," DeFeo said. "There are no delays, and the ability to render effects while simultaneously digitizing other content is invaluable."
"The use of the XPRI system by leading post production facilities for their high-end broadcast projects demonstrates a tremendous measure of trust in the systems' performance and reliability," said Bob Ott, vice president for optical and network systems in Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division. "Paired with the CineAlta technology, the XPRI system provides producers with efficient workflow and storage solutions, as well as outstanding HD picture quality."
