Creative Bubble Brings Cast of Characters to Life for Nick Jr.The Gang's All Here (October 05, 2001)
Building on their strong relationship with Nick Jr., the design team at Creative Bubble produced a whimsical open that magically brings stars such as Blue (Blue's Clues) Dora the Explorer, Little Bill, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Bob the Builder and Oswald the Octopus into typical American homes, much to the delight of children.
As the spot opens, an excited boy leaves his bedroom saying simply, "It's time to play." Accompanying him downstairs is everybody's favorite animated blue dog, detective and star of Blue's Clues. Arriving at the base of the staircase, the boy waves to Oswald the Octopus, who happens to be playing the family-room piano. In the kitchen, a little girl giggles with Little Bill (Bill Cosby's animated alter-ego) before joining her brother in the backyard.
Outside, they ask the diminutive Maggie, and the bright yellow red polka dotted Ferocious Beast if they can play. Maggie says "yes, of course," and a growing group of children join Bob the Builder to paint the fence and lead Dora the Explorer in an impromptu dance. Finally, the whole gang gathers round an elaborate jungle-gym, ready to "play and learn" with Nick Jr. The fast-paced ensemble shows how much fun Nick Jr. is.
"We've worked with Nick Jr. many times," says Creative Bubble senior effects artist Doug Dimon. "They have mostly relied on the editing work of [award-winning Creative Bubble editors] John Tierney and Pat Carpenter, but I had worked on a few spots and promos with Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. When they realized that there would be graphics and design work required, they came to us again."
Geography was a major production challenge according to Dimon. "The animation for the various Nick Jr. shows is created all over the world, from New York to London, in Japan or elsewhere. Not only did these far-flung artists have to be told what to animate, but we had to deal with an assortment of formats."
Using his trusty Flame to add reflections and shadows, Dimon seamlessly composited each animated character into the live action scenes. It was the first time most of the characters had been incorporated into live video, however, and despite a somewhat abbreviated schedule, Dimon was able to help everyone fit in just fine.
The spot closes with a white circle, surrounded by an orange wipe before changing to the Nick Jr. logo. The transition marks an introduction for some 15 shorter spots created by Dimon and Creative Bubble, each of which promotes one of the Nick Jr. shows, which were completed in just four days.
