COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) ' A chain collision involving seven school buses east of Atlanta left one driver trapped in the wreckage and forced medical officials to examine more than 30 children for injuries.
The Saturday accident happened while the buses were taking students from Burke County near the South Carolina border to a Six Flags amusement park near Atlanta.
Burke County School Board Chairman Johnny Jenkins said one bus slowed abruptly as the vehicle approached a construction site, setting off a chain collision with the other buses. Police said seven buses were involved, but further details were not immediately available.
Rescuers cut a bus driver from the wreckage. She was flown to an Atlanta-area hospital for treatment. Jenkins said more than 30 children have been taken to regional hospitals, mostly for cuts and scrapes.
