Corel KnockOut 2 Coming in November

New version available as Photoshop plugin By Dave Nagel
Corel today announced KnockOut 2, an update to its still image masking tool. The latest version will function as a plugin for Adobe Photoshop (rather than a stand-alone application) and will offer native support for Mac OS X, in addition to Mac OS 8.6 and higher. It's scheduled to ship in November, but no specific date was available at press time.

KnockOut is a tool for creating masks on images using automated features that can detect the edges of a subject. It also uses color sampling and touch-up tools for refining a mask. The previous release functioned in some ways like Mask Pro from Extensis.

The new release is the third product in Corel's "procreate" line. It operates as a plugin for Photoshop or applications that support Photoshop filters, such as Corel's own Painter 7 and Photo-Paint. It has a number of new features, including:

  • The ability to work with CMYK images;
  • New touch-up tools, including brushes and erasers;
  • More extensive support for keyboard shortcuts;
  • Reduced memory requirements.

KnockOut 2 will be available in November for $329. Users of version 1.0 through 1.5 can upgrade for $149. A German version is expected in late December, with French, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese to follow in early 2002.
