Corel Intros Painter 7 for Mac

New release to hit shelves in August By Dave Nagel
Corel today announced that Painter 7 will ship in August. The company is demonstrating the new software at the Macworld expo in New York this week. It becomes the first product to launch under Corel's new "procreate" line of software.

According to Corel, procreate is a new line of products geared specifically for "powering and extending the possibilities of design." The company also said Painter 7 will support Mac OS X.

New features in Painter 7 include:

  • Watercolor technology recreates the benefits natural media artists gain when using the watercolor medium. Painter 7 enables users to control the wetness and evaporation rate of the paint.
  • Liquid Ink layer mimics the viscosity of a thick, gluey medium like ink or paint.
  • "Full support" for the new Aqua interface designed for Mac OS X.

Painter 7 will be available for $499 for all platforms in August. Registered users of any previous versions of Fractal Design Painter 4 and 5 or MetaCreations Painter 5.5 and 6 are eligible to purchase the upgrade version of Painter 7 for $199. English and International English versions are scheduled for availability in August 2001; German and French versions will follow in September and October. For more information, visit
