Convergent Design Upgrades SD-Connect Converter SoftwareNew software adds a wide range of new features and capabilities to their SD-Connect converter box (July 08, 2005)
Convergent Design is releasing new software today bringing a wide range of new features and capabilities to their all-in-one SD-Connect converter box. Stand-out features include simultaneous bi-directional mode and beta drivers for uncompressed (1:1) 10/8 bit video and audio over 1394.
The simultaneous bi-directional feature, part of a new Stand-Alone mode, supports concurrent analog video/audio to SDI and SDI to analog video/audio conversions. This special dual-stream capability effectively creates two converters in one and is especially useful for SDI-Based editing systems and dubbing applications.
In addition to this simultaneous conversion mode, the no-charge downloadable software upgrade includes 4-channel audio level meters, video legalization, adjustable delay for gen-lock, and audio/video track selection for print to tape. Furthermore, the inclusion of bow tie, multi-burst, SDI EQ and PLL, FCC composite, and SMPTE bars, among others, turns the SD-Connect into a multifunctional video test pattern generator for both PAL and NTSC.
Most converter boxes, including SD-Connect, support 1394 to RS-422 tape deck command translation. With the current software release, SD-Connect now features RS-422 to 1394 tape deck control translation as well. Believed to be the first implementation of this mode, RS-422 to 1394 translation allows control of a consumer DV deck or camcorder from a RS-422 controller (and most SDI-Based editing systems). Fast-forward, rewind, and shuttle are among the many versatile deck controls supported.
Beta drivers for uncompressed 10/8 bit video and 24-bit audio over 1394 with Final Cut Pro are now available from the new Convergent Design web site. Users can work in uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 component or SDI video, avoiding all of the associated artifacts and related shortcomings of compressed video. Uncompressed drivers for Adobe Premiere are expected within a month.
?These new capabilities combined with broadcast quality 12-bit converters, true stand-alone operation, component and SDI (with embedded audio) video, and arguably the most comprehensive NLE support available, makes SD-Connect the most feature-packed all-in-one converter in this price range, said Michael Schell, President of Convergent Design.
