Continuum Honored With Seven Good Design Awards and Red Dot Design Award

Industry Accolades Bring Organization's 2011 Award Count to 36 (January 24, 2012)

BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/24/12 -- Continuum, a global innovation and design consultancy, today announced that the company has received seven Good Design Awards and a Red Dot Design Award, two of the world's most prestigious design awards programs, taking their total award count for 2011 award count to 36.

Continuum won Good Design Awards for its work on the BUNN Phase Brew, the Herman Miller Compass Patient Room, the Mindray V Series Patient Care Monitors, the Oreck Edge Vacuum Cleaner, the Preserve Mail-Back Pack, the Target Shopping Cart and the Targus Wireless Mouse and Chill Mat. Continuum won the Red Dot Design Award for their design of the Leverage Freedom Chair.

With the addition of these accolades, Continuum won a total of 36 design and innovation awards in 2011, including the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award, seven IDSA awards, three Medical Design Excellence Awards, three Design of the Decade Awards, three REBRAND 100® Global Awards, an Edison Award and a Spark Award.

"It's a great honor to be recognized for the work we do with our clients," said Harry West, Continuum's CEO. "These awards shine a spotlight on design that makes peoples' lives better. The Leverage Freedom Chair is a high-performance wheelchair designed to help disabled people in developing countries, and the Preserve Toothbrush Mail-Back Pack is the first toothbrush packaging system that makes it easy for consumers to recycle. Two very different products: one addresses the extreme and one the mundane, but both demonstrate how Continuum brings innovation to how people truly live."

Good Design Award

The Good Design Award is one of the world's leading standards for design excellence. Organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the Good Design awards recognizes designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design.

For the BUNN Phase Brew coffee maker, Continuum created an elegant, simple and iconic "see-through" architecture that differentiates the product on the retail shelf and references the unique capability and performance of the technology within. There's no other coffee maker quite like it.

"Continuum wove the commercial heritage of BUNN into the design of the new Phase Brew HT/HG, seamlessly tying it together with a compelling user experience," said, Scott Mazzini, Vice President Product Management with BUNN. "The result is an iconic-looking coffee maker that produces quality coffee unlike any other, offering users the best brewing experience possible."

Red Dot Design Award

The red dot design award dates back to 1955 and is now one of the world's largest and most distinguished product competitions. Continuum helped MIT's Mobility Lab envision the Leveraged Freedom Chair, a high-performance wheelchair designed to help the disabled in developing countries. In these regions, navigating rough terrain can be particularly challenging for a disabled person. The result of inspired design, the Leverage Freedom Chair has variable speed controls just like high or low gears on a mountain bike, moving 34% faster on flat ground and at 53% higher torque on rough terrain. Even more important, it provides a newfound sense of emotional independence to individuals using the chair.
