Connie Griffin Named Managing Director of R!OT ManhattanOverseeing operations and long-term strategic planning
Griffin succeeds Dan Rosen, who had served as managing director for seven years. Rosen will continue to serve as a consultant for R!OT Manhattan. Griffin joined R!OT Manhattan (then Manhattan Transfer) in 1994 and has played a key role in making the company a dominant force in visual effects and computer animation in New York. In her new role, Griffin intends to further strengthen the studio’s visual effects operations while pushing to increase its share of other markets including telecine, compositing and broadcast design. She will also seek to develop new opportunities by taking advantage of R!OT Manhattan’s links with the other R!OT studios to develop new opportunities.
“As part of the R!OT group, we can offer the New York community a range of services and a caliber of talent available nowhere else,” Griffin said. “We have a very close rapport with R!OT Santa Monica and are developing a strong synergy with Todd AO Editworks, soon to be relaunched as R!OT Atlanta. We can call on all their talent when we have a project that demands it, or send some of our artists to work on the West Coast, if that’s what our clients need."
Larry Chernoff, president of Liberty Livewire Pictures Group , the R!OT studios’ parent, said that Griffin brings dynamic and energetic leadership to R!OT Manhattan. “The post production industry is on the cusp of major changes, and Connie is the perfect person to lead R!OT at this exciting time and to capitalize on the opportunities that arise with change,” he said. “She faces a challenging task, but she is eminently qualified to meet that challenge. I am delighted to welcome her to the talented team heading the R!OT group.”
Griffin, a graduate of St. Michael’s College in Vermont, began her career as an editor with animation specialist Broadcast Arts, New York. She went onto work as a freelance post production supervisor for commercials and episodic television, and also spent several years on staff at Editel, New York, as a visual effects producer, working under Dan Rosen. She joined R!OT, shortly after Rosen made his move to the studio in 1994.
R!OT Manhattan draws clients from across the advertising, television and film industries. Recent commercial projects include such advertisers as Cingular, Hoover and Twix. The studio’s broadcast design group has recently produced graphics packages for MTV, ABC’s World News Tonight, ESPN, TNN and USA Network. The group recently won a Gold Award from the Broadcast Design Association for the main title it created for the Sci-Fi Channel’s feature Scinema.
